I just want a short self-defense class.

In addition to our regular classes, we also hold self-defense seminars on a regular schedule, and can also schedule them by request. You are more than welcome to attend these, or to contact us to set one up.

Keep in mind that the goal of these seminars is to teach you some of the basic, effective defenses against common attacks, including (and especially) awareness and strategy. However, in order to ingrain them in your muscle memory and thus become more proficient at them, you need to practice them repeatedly - much as you did when you learned to ride a bike.

You will find the techniques you learn during our seminars to be simple and effective, and you will become comfortable with them even in that short time. The question, however, is whether you will be able to use those techniques when you are under the physical and psychological stress of an actual attack - which is also something we train to deal with.

It is generally accepted that you need to train in a discipline (not just martial arts) for 10,000 hours before you have truly mastered it. Are we asking you to commit to that length of training with us? No. But we want to give you some food for thought. Training in a short seminar is definitely better than not training at all; training for a slightly longer period of time will make your techniques more effective and you more able to react to an attack. Training for a prolonged period of time increases that further.

We will not pressure you to train with us. We're more than happy to share our knowledge and to give you ways to deal with situations you may encounter, however long you're with us.
